Job summary

Mount Sinai Morningside is seeking a Patient Coordinator I to greet patients, verify demographics and insurance, and coordinate with staff to ensure records and attendance align with visits. The role involves call-center style duties, appointment scheduling, and adherence to HIPAA standards.

On-site training will be provided. Prior physician practice experience and familiarity with practice management systems are preferred to facilitate smooth patient flow and accurate insurance verification.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year physician practice experience.
• On-site training of at least one week will be provided.
• Experience with a medical office computer system for scheduling preferred.
• IDX or other practice management system experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and update insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
• Verify that the physician accepts the insurance the patient presents.
• Coordinate patient arrival with staff and ensure medical records are available.
• Process HIPAA paperwork and other required forms.
• Obtain referrals or authorizations as needed.
• Monitor waiting room status and inform patients of wait times.
• Collect co-pays and provide receipts.
• Schedule follow-up appointments and guide records requests.
• Possibly perform simple charge entry and deposit preparation.
• Provide call center support for Faculty Practice Associates.
• Answer phones and schedule appointments.
• Adhere to HIPAA and PHI handling requirements.
• Make reminder calls for next-day appointments when needed.
• Perform other related duties.
