Job summary

Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology, Ltd. is seeking a Patient Scheduling Assistant to handle appointment bookings by phone, process referrals, and register new patients in the EHR while updating demographic and insurance information.

You will verify real-time eligibility, take messages for providers, and support practice improvements. Requires a high school diploma or GED and about one year of medical office scheduling experience, with strong English communication and MS Office skills.

Job description

• Base Pay $20.00 - $26.26 / Hour

Schedules patient appointments on the phone

• Receives incoming calls from patients requesting appointments
• Processes external referrals and places outgoing calls to patients to schedule appointments
• Creates appointments and registers new patients in EHR
• Updates/obtains patient demographic and insurance information
• Performs real time eligibility to verify insurance
• Tasks Pre-Visit Specialist with sending new patient packets and ordering interpreter services for new patients, as needed

Takes phone messages for providers

• Analyzes requests and inquiries from callers
• Assess importance of telephone calls using problem-solving skills, takes/routes messages to provider or department members, as appropriate.
• Transfers or directs calls to appropriate person or department, as needed
• Answers questions and/or assists callers in meeting their needs

Performs related work as requested or assigned

• Maintains “Provider Scheduling Parameters”
• Reviews phone statistics on a monthly basis and provides suggestions for improving scheduling and messaging services
• Participate in practice improvements by implementing changes to procedures/workflows, identifying opportunities for improvement, and assisting with the delivery of compassionate and personalized patient care.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• High School graduate or GED equivalent.
• One year of previous medical office experience. Scheduling experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Accurate and precise reading and writing skills.
• Good grammar and command of the English language.
• Ability to work independently, exhibit mature judgment and make sound decisions.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and health insurance plans.
• Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost judgment and discretion.
• Promptly and responsibly answer general questions/handle problems relating to all major areas and responsibility.
• Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Experience with Electronic Health Records Preferred
