Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring a Patient Safety Observer to provide continuous safety observation for assigned patients. The role supports patient safety and comfort, assists with activities of daily living, and communicates observations to nursing staff.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• CPR Certification within 6 months of hire.
• Preferred: Previous position held in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains good human relations with patients and families.
• Observe for suicidal/violent behavior and keep patient in visual contact.
• Monitor visitors to ensure safety from weapons or illicit materials.
• Maintain 15-minute checks with documentation as directed.
• Observe more than one patient if appropriate by licensed staff.
• Follow the nurse in charge and assist as directed.
• Assist with transporting patients when requested by licensed staff.
• When not observing a patient, assist with beds, stocking, and transport as directed.
• Function in a float position across departments to meet patient needs.
• Maintain patient dignity and advocate for patients at all times.
