Job summary

Michigan Medicine seeks a Patient Placement Coordinator within the Capacity Management division to coordinate and optimize patient flow across Adult Hospitals, Mott Hospital, and the Emergency Department. You will own end-to-end patient flow processes and work with medical and nursing staff to resolve placement and progression issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing or related allied health discipline or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical or capacity management experience.
• Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and produce detailed and accurate work.
• Excellent clinical knowledge and assessment skills for patient placement.
• Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and judgement.
• Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary owner of patient flow activities.
• Maintain knowledge of unit patient placement criteria.
• Collaborate with nursing and medical staff to assess care levels and facilitate transfers.
• Facilitate intra-unit transfers to optimize room usage and patient satisfaction.
• Assess patient volumes and workload for coordination and placement.
• Activate and lead high occupancy plans with cross-functional teams.
• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
• Communicate status to stakeholders (units, ED, leadership).
• Manage multiple tasks and deadlines with energy and efficiency.
