Job summary

Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus is seeking a Financial Counselor to advise inpatients and outpatients on financial responsibilities, assist with charity care applications, and verify insurance coverage eligibility.

You will coordinate with the managed care group for pre-certification and benefit determinations, and document all discussions in the EPIC system. The role requires strong customer service and analytical skills to support patient accounts and workflows.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma; associates degree preferred.
• Two years’ experience in registration, collections, customer service, billing or related medical field preferred.
• Familiarity with government, commercial and third-party billing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients and/or family members to secure information concerning insurance coverage and eligibility.
• Obtains information not collected during admission and completes registration items (insurance cards, demographic info).
• Assesses need for financial assistance during admission or prior to discharge.
• Determines charity care eligibility and forwards applications for final review.
• Documents discussions, events and outcomes in the EPIC system.
• Responds to inquiries regarding patient accounts and financial assistance policies.
