Job summary

Duke University Health System is recruiting a Financial Care Counselor in Durham, NC to manage patient accounts and insurance coordination within the PRMO. This role focuses on accuracy in pre-admission and registration, while guiding patients on financial obligations and payment options.

The incumbent will ensure compliance with insurance requirements, process authorizations, and communicate effectively with patients and families about financial responsibilities and available assistance

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Ability to analyze relationships with patients, physicians, coworkers and supervisors; multitask and work independently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional, service-oriented working relationships.
  • Understand and comply with policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze insurance coverage and benefits to ensure timely processing.
  • Obtain authorizations based on plan contracts and guidelines.
  • Document billing system and patient records.
  • Explain bills and provide assistance to visitors and patients.
  • Admit, register and pre-register patients with accurate demographics and financial data.
  • Resolve insurance claim denials and advise on coverage.

Skills

Dental and written communication

Education

High school diploma with some postsecondary preferred
Associate's degree in healthcare field + 1 year experience
Bachelor's degree + 1 year experience
