Job summary

Duke Regional Hospital, part of Duke University Health System, seeks a Financial Care Counselor to support the DRH Admissions team. You will verify insurance, explain patient financial responsibilities, arrange payment options, and guide patients through pre-admission and registration processes.

The role emphasizes accurate data entry, coordination with insurers, and adherence to ap- plicable policies, while helping patients secure needed financial assistance.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to analyze relationships among patients, physicians, and staff; manage data and multitask.
  • Ability to understand and follow policies and procedures.
  • Customer service mindset with financial counseling experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze insurance coverage and benefits to ensure timely processing.
  • Obtain authorizations and verify payment arrangements.
  • Document billing data accurately in the system.
  • Explain bills and assist patients with questions and payments.
  • Guide patients to financial counseling and payment options.
  • Advance compliance with regulatory requirements in patient accounts.
  • Enter and update referrals and communicate with insurers as needed.
