Job summary

University of Southern California Arcadia Hospital seeks a Patient Financial Advocate to guide patients through insurance benefits and financial obligations, including uninsured cases. You will perform daily account quality checks, advise patients on coverage, and assist with eligibility for government programs and financial assistance.

The role requires HIPAA compliance, accurate documentation, and collaboration with care teams to determine eligibility and arrange payment plans.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS certification required; certifications to be obtained within stated timelines.
• M.A.B certification required; obtain within 6 months.
• Complete Certified Patient Access Course and Specialist Exam within 90 days.
• Experience in health insurance, hospital or medical office settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Explain policies, determine patient financial responsibility and rights.
• Conduct interviews, obtain consent forms, and verify insurance benefits.
• Perform daily quality control on accounts and monitor financial records.
• Identify third-party liability and screen for financial assistance programs.
• Discuss balances with patients and arrange payment plans.
• Coordinate with care teams and DPSS/ Medi-Cal representatives as needed.
