Job summary

Duke Health, part of Duke University Health System, seeks a Financial Care Counselor to manage patient accounts, verify insurance, determine financial liability, and arrange payment plans in support of the PRMO.

You will analyze coverage, obtain authorizations, explain bills to patients, and coordinate with insurers and departments to ensure compliant, accurate billing and timely cash collection.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles typical of high school education.
• Experience in hospital service access, clinical service access, physician offices, or billing and collections.
• Ability to analyze insurance coverage and explain financial responsibility to patients.

Responsibilities

• Analyze insurance coverage and benefits to ensure timely processing.
• Obtain authorizations based on plans and guidelines.
• Document billing activity and assist patients with financial questions.
• Explain bills and policies to patients and arrange payment options.
• Monitor and reconciling third‑party sponsorship and reimbursement processes.
• Support data collection for budget and reporting purposes.
