Qualifications

• 2 years experience in a clinical healthcare position related to patient financial services, registration or scheduling.
• Knowledge of computers and MS Windows applications.
• Typing speed of at least 30 WPM preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify required information at time of registration and determine appropriate financial education and forms.
• Collect and validate comprehensive data set at scheduling, confirming insurance status.
• Complete missing data and verify information with patient before service.
• Document and verify insurance information and identify managed care provisions.
• Estimate patient charges and calculate liabilities; discuss financial obligations and assistance options.
• Prepare for patient arrival with all documents and determine arrival status.
• Explain patient information and obtain proper signatures where needed.
• Explain financial impact of Medicare ABN, Blue Cross Financial Waiver and other obligations.
• Screen registrations for sensitive diagnoses and obtain necessary releases.
• Track and resolve pre-service/service data edits; clear all applicable bill edits.
• Notify case manager of pre-authorization requirements; maximize productivity.
• Remind patients to bring required information and co-pays.
• Maintain professionalism and effective communication under stress.
• Ensure patient understanding and clarify any further information needed.
