Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
• 1–2 years of work experience in Patient Financial Advocate, patient registration, or related healthcare field.
• Prior experience in customer service, especially with front-end patient interactions regarding financial processes.
• Experience communicating with insurance carriers to obtain authorization for services is preferred; excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under stress, with tact and diplomacy, and strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough financial screening of patients and educate them on insurance benefits and billing processes.
• Ensure accounts are cleared for billing and obtain insurance authorization for services.
• Secure payment arrangements (including co-payment/coinsurance) prior to discharge and for major outpatient services.
• Identify additional payment sources (including Financial Assistance) and initiate Medical Assistance applications where needed.
• Provide cost estimates to patients and assist with payment planning.
