Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Less than 1 year to 1 year experience providing high quality customer service required, preferably in health care.
• Experience with computerized scheduling/registration systems and electronic records preferred.
• One year of relevant professional-level work experience may substitute for education.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to department goals and adheres to policies, procedures, quality and safety standards.
• Manages patient intake, screens for urgency, verifies insurance, explains payment responsibility, and collects copays.
• Schedules appointments, followups and referrals; prepares test requisitions as applicable.
• Answers phones per policy; provides telephone triage and routes messages as needed.
• Prepares and updates forms, reports, and patient records; scans and indexes documents.
• Contacts patients regarding missed appointments; tracks no-shows and updates system data.
• Performs check-out: inputs charges and verifies demographics/insurance; ensures timely billing.
• Supports implementation of new technology and processes to improve patient experience.
• Ensures smooth patient flow and effective communication among staff and providers.
• Maintains neat work areas representing MedStar Health positively.
• Participates in meetings and committees as needed; supports quality improvement initiatives.
