Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to perform unit-based reception, clerical tasks, medical record handling and patient registration. The role requires prioritizing in emergencies, maintaining a calm demeanor and communicating effectively with patients, families and staff.

The incumbent supports patient flow and acts as a liaison between units and other departments, coordinating with the charge RN and manager to optimize workload and service delivery.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and in writing.
• Ability to assess and determine situations requiring an interpreter and to use interpreter services effectively
• Excellent customer service skills

Responsibilities

• Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor.
• Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers.
• Addresses questions and concerns promptly, or directs to appropriate resources.
• Coordinates with Manager and Charge Nurse to manage unit workflow.
• Retrieves lab results and ensures timely delivery of information to caregivers.
• Registers patients in the computer and prepares medical records for admissions and discharges.
