Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to perform unit-based reception, clerical tasks, medical record handling and patient registration. The role requires prioritizing effectively, calm response to emergencies, and strong communication with patients, families and staff.

Responsibilities include coordinating with the charge RN, managing unit workflow, and ensuring accurate and timely information is provided to patients and other departments.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic computer knowledge
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and in writing
• Ability to assess and determine situations requiring an interpreter and to use interpreter services effectively
• Excellent customer service skills

Responsibilities

• Provides friendly, professional demeanor and appearance.
• Registers patient in the computer and coordinates with care teams.
• Delivers accurate information and timely updates to patients and families.
• Directs patients and customers to appropriate locations.
• Uses service recovery skills to resolve issues and improve service.
• Coordinates workflow with Manager and Charge Nurse and supports unit operations.
