Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a Patient Care Assistant/Unit Administrative Assistant (PCA/UAA) to support the interprofessional team in delivering high quality, cost-effective care. This role performs basic ADLs and assists with calls to physicians, bed management, and unit coordination under a licensed nurse.

The PCA/UAA demonstrates competency in communication, computer terminology, and teamwork, upholding Houston Methodist ICARE values.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 18 months of CNA/CMA/PCA experience.
• One year of secretarial/office training or six months of internal cross-training within Houston Methodist.
• Prior health care experience and/or medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answers incoming unit calls and facilitates throughput.
• Greets patients and visitors, provides directions and information.
• Communicates with the interprofessional team clearly and timely.
• Documents care, diagnostic measurements, treatments per policy.
• Coordinates with Facilities/Biomed for equipment needs and unit workflow.
• Performs direct patient care under RN supervision.
