Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Short Stay unit. This part-time night shift role runs 7 PM to 7 AM, two 12-hour shifts per week with rotating weekends.

The PCT will provide direct patient care, monitor vitals, assist with activities of daily living, and perform procedures under RN supervision. Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent and one of several certifications or training programs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• One of the listed certifications or programs required (e.g., CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, Navy Hospital Corps, EMR/EMS training).
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and assist with activities of daily living.
• Monitor and document vital signs and patient condition in the RN's direction.
• Assist with mobility, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and basic procedures.
• Maintain safety practices and accurate charting per hospital policy.

This is a Part-Time, Night Shift (12-hour shift) position.Hours: 7PM to 7AM - Two12-hour shifts (24 hours/week), with rotating weekends.The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse.
