Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Vascular Unit on a full-time night shift (12-hour nights from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) with rotating weekends and holidays. The PCT provides patient care, supports daily living activities, monitors vital signs, performs phlebotomy, EKG testing, specimen collection, and catheter care under RN supervision.

High School Diploma and CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or equivalent, plus BLS within 90 days, are required; one year

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Certification as CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, or equivalent preferred/required per experience.
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire required or.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, feeding) and mobility.
  • Monitor and document vital signs and patient status.
  • Perform phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, and EKG testing as directed.
  • Peripheral IV removal and basic specimen collection.
  • Assist RN with patient safety and comfort and report changes promptly.

This is a Full Time, Night Shift (12-hour shift) position.Hours: 7:00PM to 7:00AM - Three 12-hour shifts (36 hours per week), with rotating weekends and holidays.Department Overview: Our 24-bed stepdown/intermediate care specialty unit provides care to patients with vascular disorders, kidney, and pancreas transplants!The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse.
