Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Oncology Unit on a full-time, weekend day shift (12-hour shifts from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm).

The role supports nursing with chemotherapy and hospice patients, performs patient care tasks, monitors vital signs, assists with activities of daily living, phlebotomy, EKGs, specimen collection and catheter care, reporting changes promptly to the RN.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent; CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or similar certification preferred.
• AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Experience in healthcare setting preferred (one year).

Responsibilities

• Take and monitor vital signs and report changes to RN.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
• Perform phlebotomy and point-of-care testing.
• Conduct EKG testing and specimen collection.
• Assist with Foley catheter insertion/removal and IV care.
• Document patient status accurately and timely as directed by nursing staff.

This is a Full Time, Weekend Day Shift (12-hour shift) position.Hours: 7:00am to 7:00pm - Three 12-hour shifts (36 hours per week between Friday and Monday).Department Overview:This unit cares for Medical and Surgical oncology patients in an inpatient, 36-bed unit. The unit is both an oncology unit and intermediate care! We are hiring compassionate Patient Care Technicians to support our nursing team with chemotherapy and hospice patients.The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse.
