Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is hiring a Patient Care Technician to support licensed nurses in both direct and indirect patient care. The role includes assisting with admissions, taking vital signs, performing phlebotomy, newborn and infant care, and responding to patient needs in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualified applicants will hold CNA certification or be in nursing school, with CPR/BLS credentials and strong safety training.

Qualifications

• CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing with basic clinical rotations completed.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• Minimum of 90% on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
• Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.
• High school diploma required; One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with ability to relate to patients, family, nursing and medical staff.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care activities: assists with admission, transfer and discharge; takes and records temperature, pulse, respirations, weight and blood pressure; measures intake/output; applies cardiac monitor/oximetry; performs phlebotomy; etc.
• Indirect Patient Care: maintains a safe, clean environment; completes charges; orders supplies; stocks in appropriate location; participates in meetings and QC activities.
