Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support the professional RN in direct and indirect patient care. The role involves assisting with admissions, vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and newborn care in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing who has successfully completed basic clinical rotations.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
• Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.
• High school diploma required. One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, family, nursing and medical staff.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care Activities such as admissions, transfers, discharges, vital signs, urine output, and basic nursing procedures.
• Performs phlebotomy and collects specimens.
• Discontinues heplocks and foley catheters; assists with post-operative care.
• Transports patients, equipment, and supplies; responds to patient call lights and emergencies.
• Maintains a safe, clean environment and assists RN in delivering patient care.
• Participates in quality improvement activities and staff orientation.

Education

CNA Certification or enrolled in School of Nursing

CPR (BLS for Healthcare Providers)

High school diploma or equivalent

One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience

Associates or Bachelor’s degree

Minimum 90% on annual Health and Safety Training quizzes
