General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician Emergency Department (PCT ED) to join our team at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center.

As a PCT ED, you will be part of the patient-centered care team providing direct care activities in the emergency department under supervision of registered nurses or medical providers to patients with various conditions. Your duties include assisting with procedures, specimen collection, phlebotomy, IV insertions, EKGs, and documentation.

Primary Duties:

• Provide direct patient care under supervision, assisting with ADLs and personal hygiene, performing eye and ear irrigation, applying bandages, splints, and immobilization devices, and fitting patients for mobility aids.
• Collect specimens, perform venipuncture, obtain EKGs, insert and manage IVs, and apply oxygen equipment.
• Measure and document vital signs, perform treatments like Foley and NG tube insertions, wound care, turning and positioning, postmortem care, and maintain drainage and oxygen equipment.
• Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and dignity; observe patients and apply restraints as needed. Assist providers and nurses during examinations and procedures.
• Report patient condition changes, ensure proper handoffs, and assist in CPR when indicated.
• Participate in patient and family education, transport patients, and perform errands such as specimen delivery.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of patient environments, support environmental services, restock supplies, and ensure orderly utility and supply rooms.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program
• 1-2 years of experience as a CNA
• Maryland CNA certification
• BLS certification
• Experience as a care technician, EMT, or paramedic (preferred)
• Experience in acute or long-term care (preferred)
• Student nurse in junior or senior year (preferred)
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (preferred)

Minimum Qualifications

This position offers a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08.
