Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support direct patient care on the unit, including hygiene, mobility, and monitoring. The role requires multi-skills for phlebotomy and EKGs, equipment management, and assisting in procedures under RN guidance.

The PCT will perform various bedside tasks, document patient status, and ensure safety while supporting the care team in delivering high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• At least one year of patient care experience.
• Proficient reading and writing in English.
• Ability to maintain professional composure in medium to high-stress situations.
• Strong communication skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Provides age-appropriate care to patients and applies developmental theories.
• Monitors vital signs and records weights, heights, and head circumference as required.
• Assists with treatments and procedures; changes dressings and supports post-mortem care as directed.
• Assists with elimination needs; labels and handles specimens promptly; tracks intake and output.
• Performs Point of Care (POC) testing.
• Supports delivery of ancillary services and follows treatment plans.
• Communicates effectively with the team and patients; respects cultural needs.
• Initiates emergency procedures and maintains patient safety.
• Acts as a team member, aiding clinical and non-clinical tasks.
• Completes competence in clinical recognition and one-to-one patient observation as needed.
• Maintains documentation of treatments and activities.
