Job summary

Trinity Health Ann Arbor is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join the 7 East Cardiac PCU. The role involves assisting with ADLs, specimen collection, and IV management under RN supervision. The unit serves cardiac, medical-surgical patients with monitoring needs.

Training is provided; the position requires a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of direct care experience or completion of relevant courses. Day/night shifts with weekend/holiday rotation are expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• At least one year of direct care experience or completion of a PCT/CENA/MA/EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ADLs including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation with assistive devices, and feeding.
• Collect and send specimens (blood, blood cultures) and handle peripheral IV catheters.
• Document patient information accurately to meet requirements.
• Provide care to cardiac, medical-surgical patients with monitoring needs.
• Frequent patient assessment and timely clinical interventions.
• Unit consists of 32 beds; patient age around 64.

Shift: Day / Night (Day Shift 6:30 am – 3:00 pm; Night Shift 10:30 pm – 7:00 am). Every other weekend and holiday per year required for Full‑time and Part‑time team members.

Position Purpose

The PCT, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age‑specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family well‑being, including concepts of relationship‑based care.

Required Education / Licensure

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long‑term) or successful completion of a CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

What you will do

• Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success.
• The PCT assists patient in completing ADLs including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, and feeding and menu selection.
• A PCT collects and sends specimens including blood and blood cultures, and inserts and removes peripheral IV catheters. They record patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements.
• Provide services to older adolescent, adult, and older adult cardiac patients, acute and chronic heart‑failure patients, as well as medical surgical patients who require cardiac monitoring.
• Patients on the unit require close and frequent assessment and skillful and timely clinical interventions to achieve their treatment goals.
• The unit is 32 beds and the average patient age is 64.
