Trinity Health Ann Arbor seeks a Patient Care Tech (PCT) to provide direct patient care under RN supervision. The role supports 2 East Surgical Progressive Care, a 32-bed unit serving high acuity surgical patients.

Shifts include 6:30 am–3:00 pm, 2:30 pm–11:00 pm, and 10:30 pm–7:00 am. Full-time and part-time statuses are available, with weekends/holidays required for full-time/part-time staff. High school diploma and direct care experience or completion of relevant courses are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one year direct care experience or completion of CENA/PCT/MA/EMT.
• Student nurses must have completed fundamentals of nursing in a BSN program.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ADLs including bathing, toileting, transfers and feeding.
• Collect and send specimens and manage IV access documentation.
• Care for high acuity surgical patients with frequent monitoring.
• Unit specializes in Core Surgical Services, Cardiothoracic, Vascular Surgery and trauma care.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, customer service, communication and teamwork.

Position Purpose

The PCT, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care.

Shifts Available: 6:30 am-3:00pm; 2:30pm-11:00pm, 10:30pm-7:00am

Status Available: Full-time, Part-time

Every Other Weekend and Holiday per year required for Full-time and Part-time team members.

Required Education / Licensure

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

What you will do

• Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success.
• The PCT assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection.
• A PCT will collect and send specimens including blood and blood cultures and inserts and removes peripheral IV catheters. They are responsible to record patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.
• 2 East cares for high acuity surgical patients who require frequent monitoring, multiple lines/tubes, and complex nursing care.
• The 32-bed unit specializes in Core Surgical Services, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery. Additional Surgical Populations include General Surgery, Trauma, and Plastic Surgery; a fast paced, dynamic unit known for High volume and high patient turnover.
