Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a detail-oriented billing associate to handle patient inquiries about hospital and physician accounts. You will work via phone, email, and in person, documenting actions and coordinating with other departments.

The role requires a High School Diploma and 3+ years of customer service experience, with knowledge of medical terminology and third-party insurance. Strong computer skills and problem solving are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Three years of relevant work experience, including telephone customer service.
• Knowledge of third party insurance and medical terminology.
• Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public, physicians, and others, both inside and outside of the organization.
• Computer skills.
• Excellent customer service skills and demonstrated problem solving ability.

Responsibilities

• Responds to patient/responsible party inquiries/requests for hospital and physician accounts via telephone, mail, or email by accessing the billing system.
• Accesses vendor applications and databases to assist in resolving patient inquiries.
• Operates within call center protocols and work queues.
• Processes patient correspondence, voice mail and emails for Single Billing Office.
• Documents all actions taken in the billing system and completes daily statistic summaries.
• Resolves insurance eligibility and updates, processes payments, and updates guarantor information.
