Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA is seeking a Non-Exempt Billing Clerk to respond to patient inquiries about hospital and physician bills. The role requires strong telephone customer service, knowledge of third party insurance and medical terminology, and solid computer skills.

The position is based in a single billing office with standard day hours (Mon-Fri). A signing bonus may be available, with compensation based on schedule and experience.

Qualifications

• Three years of relevant work experience, including telephone customer service.
• Knowledge of third party insurance and medical terminology.
• Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public, physicians, and others.

Responsibilities

• Responds to patient inquiries about hospital and physician bills via telephone, mail, email and in person.
• Accesses billing systems and vendor databases to resolve inquiries and process updates.
• Operates within call center protocols and manages assigned work queues.
• Documents actions in the billing system and communicates with revenue cycle areas.
• Handles walk-in inquiries and processes insurance eligibility and updates as needed.
• Establishes payment plans, processes payments, and updates guarantor information.
