Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Central Massachusetts is seeking a full-time Patient Billing Specialist. This non-exempt role requires 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, day shift (8:00 AM–4:30 PM), with final offers based on schedule and qualifications.

The hourly pay range is $20.94 to $29.27. You will respond to patient inquiries, verify insurance, process payments and refunds, update demographics, and document actions in the billing system.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required
• Three years of relevant work experience including telephone customer service
• Knowledge of third party insurance and medical terminology
• Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public and healthcare staff
• Computer skills and good problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities

• Responds to patient and responsible party inquiries via telephone, mail, email, and in person by accessing the billing system.
• Accesses vendor applications and databases to assist in resolving inquiries.
• Operates within established call distribution center protocols.
• Processes patient correspondence, voicemail, and emails for the Single Billing Office.
• Communicates with revenue cycle areas to resolve patient inquiries.
• Performs insurance eligibility checks and updates, money transfers, account adjustments, reviews of EOBs, and processing of payments and refunds.
• Handles walk-in patient inquiries on-site and documents actions in the billing system.
• Completes daily statistic summary reports.
