Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking a patient registration specialist for McLaren Greater Lansing. You will accurately enter patient data and verify insurance online, while upholding HIPAA and compliance standards and delivering excellent service to support admissions and registrations.

The role requires six months of patient registration or related clerical experience, familiarity with medical terminology, and proficiency in MS Office and Windows.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months of patient registration or billing experience in acute care or physician office; or two years of clerical data entry, customer service, and recordkeeping.
• Experience or coursework in medical terminology.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Windows.

Responsibilities

• Receives complete bed requests and coordinates admission/transfer with Administrative Nursing Supervisor.
• Contacts physicians and offices to obtain orders meeting medical necessity per CMS guidelines.
• Collects and verifies patient demographic and insurance data prior to or at time of service; obtains signatures on forms.
• Prepares and audits patient records for complete and accurate registration data; distributes records as needed.
• May collect patient co-pays, deductibles and deposits; directs self-pay patients to Pre-Admission Review or Financial Counselor.
