Job summary

Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton is seeking a patient access specialist to provide front line support for the department. You will greet and register patients, support check-out, and help schedule future appointments as applicable.

Responsibilities include verifying demographics, handling insurance responses, communicating financial obligations, and ensuring HIPAA privacy. You will process forms, manage recall and reschedule lists, and maintain accurate medical records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required, and customer service experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction.
• Familiarity with HIPAA and privacy regulations is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Greet and register patients, support check-in and scheduling as applicable.
• Verify demographics and complete check-in procedures while monitoring wait times.
• Read and interpret insurance responses and determine coverage levels.
• Explain financial obligations and collect fees at time of service.
• Maintain HIPAA guidelines and ensure patient confidentiality, accuracy in records.
