Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Good communication and customer service skills with a pleasant, clear speaking voice.
• Must have good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
• One year of hospital or health care experience in registration or business office environment preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary receptionist for all incoming patients to the department.
• Maintain excellent customer service for patients, families, visitors, and staff.
• Check patients in/out and print visit summaries and appointment cards as needed.
• Enter data into EMR modules and verify demographic/insurance information.
• Review orders for accuracy and monitor ED tracking board for active orders.
• Verify insurance coverage with AccuReg and notify relevant departments.
• Obtain and witness signatures on consent and required documents.
• Scan insurance cards and relevant documents for medical records.
• Refer payment issues to financial counselors and collect co-pays per EMTALA rules.
• Balance cash drawer and attach referrals to appointments.
• Handle department calls and paging, monitor alarms as needed.
