Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of related experience in insurance, referral processes, private physician’s office practice or hospital registration setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates all incoming referrals for consultations from physician practices, hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities.
• Compiles clinical data including physician notes, patient history, lab/imaging results and other information from referring physician or facility.
• Arranges and schedules consultation appointments, verifies demographic information and insurance eligibility.
• Verifies insurance, checks benefits, collects patient responsibility from payer.
• Interacts with patient and family to review insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs.
• Acts as patient liaison for financial matters and follows up on insurance and financial risk quarterly.
• Manages pre-service patient payments and establishes payment plans if needed.
• Assists with Massachusetts Medicaid applications and other programs (Disability, Health Safety Net).
• Requests and obtains insurance referrals from physician or patient’s PCP; sends pre-visit paperwork with clear instructions.
• Supports documentation and communication with Social Work, Case Management, Billing, and Contracting.
