Job summary

Emerus is seeking a PRN Patient Registrar at the Converse location to serve as a liaison among patients, payers, and healthcare teams, ensuring accurate demographic data collection and financial clearance to maximize hospital reimbursement.

The role emphasizes excellent customer service, accurate insurance verification, and coordination of the revenue cycle, with emphasis on regulatory compliance and efficient records handling.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience, required; 2 years preferred.
• ED registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors.
• Fluency in English, written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and other regulations in Admissions and Medical Records handling.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships.
• Answer telephone professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents.
• Enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor and plan in patient accounting system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Maximize collections by pursuing payments at the point of service.
• Scan and maintain all registration and clinical documents in the system.
• Coordinate transfer of patients to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer according to policies.
• Maintain log of patients, payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log.
