Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to act as a liaison between patients, families, payers, and hospital teams. You will gather and verify demographic information, secure payments, and maximize hospital reimbursement by collecting out-of-pocket responsibility at the point of service.

The role emphasizes comprehensive customer service, accurate data entry, and adherence to EMTALA, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements within a day shift/full-time setting at our 16-bed small-format hospital.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3 years patient registration and insurance verification experience.
• Knowledge of EMTALA/HIPAA compliance and medical terminology preferred.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills; fluent English.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between patient/family, payers and hospital team.
• Obtain/verify demographic information and document accurately for revenue cycle.
• Verify insurance benefits and confirm correct payor and plan.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as applicable.
• Collect out-of-pocket payments to maximize reimbursement and maintain records.
• Maintain patient registrations, admissions and transfers QA.
• Assist with training and support for PAS duties as needed.
