Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, required.
• 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting, required; 2 years preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors, required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), strongly preferred.
• Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all other hospital and government regulations applicable to the Admissions settings and in handling of Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service by understanding customer needs and building quality relationships.
• Answer telephone professionally, record messages and communicate to appropriate medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Enter complete and accurate demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits for all plans and ensure correct payor and plan are in the system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans where applicable.
• Assist with coordinating transfers of patients to other hospitals when necessary.
• Maintain cash drawer and logs for patients, payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain a clean working environment at front desk and patient areas.
• Assist medical staff and participate in staff meetings as required.
