Job summary

Emerus Holdings, Inc. is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to act as a liaison between patients, payers, and the hospital team. You will collect accurate demographic data, verify insurance benefits, secure authorizations, and assist with revenue-cycle activities at a small-format hospital.

Key responsibilities include welcoming patients, triaging on arrival, obtaining required consents, and guiding transfers when needed. Strong English skills and healthcare terminology knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
• Fluency in English; bilingual English/Spanish a plus in some markets.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations in Admissions and Medical Records handling.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with patients and families.
• Identify and triage patients on arrival to ensure safety and proper identification.
• Answer calls professionally, record messages, and relay to appropriate staff.
• Collect and verify demographic information and secure financial responsibilities from guarantors.
• Verify insurance benefits and confirm payor and plan in the system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Pursue collections at the time of service to maximize reimbursement.
• Scan documents into the system and maintain medical records.
• Coordinate transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients and providers.
• Maintain cash drawer and logging of payments and admissions.
