Position Summary

The Patient Access Technician (PAT) is responsible for ensuring accurate patient admission and registration. This intermediate-level clerical position applies professional service-orientation, good judgment, and independent thinking in daily work functions.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to organization policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Obtain inpatient bed assignments and process inpatient admissions, including arm banding, addressograph plate, and completion of necessary forms
  • Pre-admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory patients to facilitate smooth registration
  • Obtain direct admit information and enter reservations in the system to notify other areas
  • Perform comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews to obtain demographic, insurance, and third-party information
  • Perform eligibility verification, resolve discrepancies, and determine the need for financial assistance, referring to Financial Counselors when necessary
Requirements
  • Graduate of a health vocational program such as Patient Access, Medical Assistance, Medical Billing & Insurance OR
  • One (1) year of experience in admitting, Health Unit Coordination, patient registration, customer service, or billing duties; healthcare setting preferred
