Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a patient access associate to support ambulatory services in a fast-paced environment. The role involves greeting patients, collecting demographics, verifying insurance, and processing registrations for walk-ins.

You will collaborate with financial counselors to assist with patient financial obligations. The position requires ability to travel within listed sites and a strong emphasis on accuracy and customer service, with opportunities for professional development

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in patient access, scheduling, registration, and financial clearance preferred.
• Knowledge of Medicare, HIPAA, and EMTALA rules and regulations; stay updated on insurance pre-certification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients arriving for their appointments.
• Ensures all patient demographics and insurance information are complete and accurate.
• Completes registration for walk-in patients and updates demographics as needed.
• Verifies insurance benefits and collects patient financial liability.
• Follows Financial Clearance policy for non-urgent services when needed.
• Identifies patients needing financial assistance and refers to Financial Counselor.
• Performs visit closure including scheduling follow-ups and collecting balances.
• Maintains knowledge of payer requirements and pre-authorization rules.
• Proactively communicates issues to management for process improvements.
• Meets productivity and accuracy targets.
• Maintains professional relations with patients and staff and supports information flow.
