Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Patient Access/Financial Counselor to check in patients for appointments, verify demographics, and explain financial obligations. You will interpret insurance responses and assign payer levels, gather signatures, and schedule follow-up visits as needed.

The role requires strong communication, adherence to HIPAA, and thorough handling of patient financial responsibilities. Work is performed in an office setting with day schedule Monday–Friday.

Responsibilities

• Check in patients for appointments and verify demographics.
• Explain insurance responsibilities and collect signatures as required.
• Read and interpret insurance responses and assign payer levels correctly.
• Schedule follow-up appointments including specialty or ancillary services.
• Communicate financial obligations to patients and collect fees when due.
• Process multiple messages about appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA guidelines.
