Job summary

Geisinger in PA is seeking a patient services specialist to manage front-desk check-ins, verify demographics, read insurance responses, and assign primary/secondary/tertiary coverage as needed.

Responsibilities

• Checking patients in for appointments and accurately verifying demographics.
• Assuring all check-in procedures are completed and monitoring patient wait times, communicating changes to the patient as necessary.
• Reading and interpreting insurance responses.
• Understanding general guidelines and insurance rank requirements to properly assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter.
• Ensuring patient receives necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtaining necessary legal and financial signatures.
• Communicating financial obligations to patients and collecting fees at time of service as appropriate.
• Communicating the purpose of and completing all necessary regulatory forms with patient.
• Completing patient's visit by scheduling any necessary follow up appointments to include any specialty or ancillary services as possible.
• Processing multi-channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests regarding: appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints.
• Notifying patient or guarantor of anticipated financial responsibility including copays, deductibles, or coinsurances and collects accordingly.
• Performing cash posting following department guidelines.
• Abiding by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality and patient rights.
• Independently working work queues to ensure timely resolution of all accounts.
• Maintain productivity and quality performance expectations
• Must maintain high regard for confidentiality.
• Accurately performing medical record maintenance and releases.
• Assisting with referrals and pre-certifications, at the time of encounter.
• Properly utilizing and maintaining patient recall and reschedule lists.
