Job summary

East Tennessee Children’s Hospital is seeking a patient access representative to be the first point of contact for families, handling registration, insurance verification, scheduling and billing inquiries. You will manage calls, update patient records, and ensure data accuracy in our scheduling system.

The role requires strong communication skills, familiarity with databases and calendars, and a customer-focused approach to resolve issues promptly in a busy healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required
• Proficiency in computer data entry and familiarity with calendar applications and databases
• Knowledge of customer service practices
• Strong research and problem‑solving abilities

Responsibilities

• Answers incoming telephone calls in a courteous and helpful manner, relays messages and maintains confidentiality
• Field outbound calls (insurance referrals, medical records, waitlist management)
• Registers new patients and updates patient information in scheduling system; verifies subscriber information
• Schedules follow-up appointments and provides necessary forms for parents; identifies legal guardian to complete accounts
• Reviews procedure and diagnosis codes; assists to appeal denials and provide records for disputes
• Maintains confidentiality of hospital and patient information; interacts professionally with patients and staff
• Completes end-of-day financials: balances credit cards and provides financial information to ETCH Financial Services
