Job summary

UnitedHealth Group in Southborough, MA is seeking a Patient Service Specialist to verify insurance, handle scheduling, and provide top-tier customer service.

The role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to work with a care team to support financial and clinical goals. It is a full-time, on-site position with a 8:30 AM–5:00 PM schedule and potential travel to other locations as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 1+ years of customer service experience.
• Access to reliable transportation and a valid US driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Verifies, re-verifies and authorizes patient insurance coverage and eligibility using the registration/scheduling system.
• Updates demographic, insurance, and other patient information.
• Collects and posts patient co-payments and other balances.
• Answers patient-care related calls via the queue and meets department metrics.
• Identifies priorities and notifies providers as needed.
• Enters new referrals or links existing referral numbers to meet managed care requirements.
• Educates patients about managed care plans and referral processes.
• Schedules patient visits and procedures for inpatients and outpatients; communicates appointment details.
• Notifies providers, patients and others of scheduling changes, no-shows, and add-ons.
• Checks patients in/out and schedules follow-up appointments.
