Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System in New York City is seeking a Patient Encounter Associate to support patient reception, scheduling and financial pre-clearance. You will verify demographics, determine insurance/payment source, and enter information in the practice management system.

You will greet patients, collect co-pays, assist with prior authorizations, and help ensure timely registrations and accurate billing. A on-site training is provided; strong attention to HIPAA compliance is required.

Qualifications

• HS/GED; Associates degree preferred.
• 1 year physician practice experience; minimum on-site training provided.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients in person and by phone and updates their insurance/demographic information in the practice management system.
• Gathers registration and financial information for patient pre-registration and enters the information into the practice management system.
• Answers phones for the practice; schedules, re-schedules and cancels patient appointments based on established protocols.
• Contacts patients at home to confirm scheduled and canceled appointments.
• Checks in patients upon arrival and performs full registration, including verification of demographics and insurance with third-party providers.
• Ensures the patient has paid or collects the appropriate co-pay under billing management direction.
• May perform simple to moderately-complex charge entry tasks or enter payments collected from patients.
• Facilitates prior authorization and appointment scheduling for diagnostic testing requested by providers for patients in EPIC.
• Reviews status of waiting room and advises patients of wait times.
• Ensures prior approval and other required procedures are met prior to delivery of care.
• Reconciles daily patient schedule with encounters closed.
• Works billing edit reports and reviews encounters which may require correction.
• Scans documents into EPIC daily.
• Participates in system development and process improvement by providing feedback to Manager.
• Follows HIPAA and PHI handling requirements.

Education
