Job summary

UP Health System - Portage is seeking a Patient Services Representative to support front desk operations, scheduling, and patient communications. You will greet patients, manage check-ins/outs, and handle calls and messages, while coordinating referrals and pre-certifications as requested by providers.

The role requires a High School Diploma or Equivalent and at least 2 years of medical office experience; BLS certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
• Preferred: 2 years Medical Office experience; experience with Medical Referrals preferred.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Certifications: BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).

Responsibilities

• Facilitates the patient referral process and obtains pre-certifications as requested by providers.
• Greets patients; check-in, check-out, scheduling and manages telephones and messages.
• Collects and posts co-pays, deductibles and past due balances at the time of service.
