Job summary

Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) is seeking a full-time appointment scheduling specialist for the Days shift (8am–4:30pm, Monday–Friday). Responsibilities include matching physician-specific scheduling guidelines with patient preferences, collecting basic patient data, and ensuring HIPAA-compliant registration and insurance processes.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related experience, with prior behavioral health or patient scheduling experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires HS diploma or GED and 1 year related experience.
• Previous behavioral health, patient scheduling or patient registration experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and computer literacy are essential.
• Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines is expected.

Responsibilities

• Provide appointment scheduling services to patients and referring offices by matching scheduling guidelines with patient preferences.
• Collect and maintain accurate patient registration and insurance information per HIPAA.
• Coordinate multi-channel communications among patients, physicians, staff and departments.
• Schedule patient appointments across providers, including specialty and ancillary services.
• Provide prep instructions for procedures and tests per physician/department guidelines.
• Complete registration and insurance information to ensure timely payment for services.
• Handle referrals and obtain required referrals for physician offices.
• Answer questions about appointment status from patients and physicians.
• Coordinate hold/release of template slots to meet time, date and location preferences.
