Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Fluency in English; written and oral communication. Spanish is required in the El Paso Market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA compliance in Admissions settings and in handling Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships.
• Identify and triage patients on arrival to the hospital.
• Answer telephone professionally, record messages and relay to medical staff.
• Provide and obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Enter complete and accurate demographic information on all accounts to facilitate revenue cycle.
• Verify insurance benefits for all plans and confirm correct payor/plan in the system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Pursue collections at the time of service in a courteous manner.
• Scan registration and clinical documents into the system and maintain medical records.
• Assist with transferring patients to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer per policy.
• Maintain logs of patients, payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log.
