Under the leadership of the Patient Access Supervisor, the Patient Access Representative I is responsible for performing check-in (including updating schedule for radiology same day appointments), registration, transfer and discharge functions. S/he is responsible for greeting all patients and visitors and answering incoming phone calls. S/he is required to interview and gather information from the patient, doctor's office, insurance company and government agencies. The representative must obtain necessary signatures on financial agreements, consents and admissions agreements, generate appropriate paperwork and place hospital identification bands on patients according to procedure The representative is responsible to explain financial responsibility to patients/guarantors and collect payments according to procedure .S/he is responsible for entering complete and accurate data utilizing computer technology. Patient Access Representative I may be cross-trained and scheduled as a charge person, Pre Service Representative or Financial Counselor/Benefit Specialist. This position serves patients, physician's offices, and other customers requiring excellent communication and customer service skills.
Experience: Required: Clerical experience (typing, filing, answering phones, office equipment). The ability to maintain a positive professional demeanor in a demanding environment. Basic computer skills.
Preferred: Knowledge of and experience with medical terminology, basic understanding of insurance requirements, two years experience in health care environment, and basic understanding of diagnosis/procedure coding preferred.
Education: High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent work experience in related field.

Assigned Work Hours: Per diem position, varied days and shifts as needed. No set guaranteed hours in a two week pay period. This is not a full or part time position.
Position Type: Per Diem Pay Range (based on years of applicable experience): $34.03 to $45.55 The hours employees work determine when a shift differential is paid.
