Job Description - Patient Access Representative I (25000311)

UH Parma Medical Center

Multiple openings on different shifts!

Monday through Friday, rotating weekends and holidays

Overview

The Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for all patients and their families. This role supports and interacts with patients, families, and healthcare providers. They work directly with patients to ensure accuracy of demographic, insurance, payment, and other vital information. They address questions, resolve scheduling concerns, and maintain excellent patient service. They also support the medical team by streamlining patient processing to improve satisfaction and appointment adherence. The role impacts both the revenue cycle and the patient experience.

Responsibilities
  1. Check patients in and out for medical visits.
  2. Answer phone inquiries and schedule appointments.
  3. Assist patients with enrolling and using MyChart.
  4. Enter, update, and validate patient demographic, insurance, and financial information for accurate registration.
  5. Communicate important information to the care team.
  6. Contact insurance companies regarding coverage, preauthorizations, billing, and other issues.
  7. Collect and process payments for copays, coinsurance, deductibles, and prior balances.
  8. Assist with completing paperwork and forms.
  9. Manage EPIC workqueues, worklists, and inbasket messages.
  10. Schedule referrals and follow-up visits.
  11. Scan documents into EPIC accurately and promptly.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with staff and providers to improve patient experience and efficiency.
  • Participate in UH emergency preparedness efforts.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Cross-train for other duties as needed.
  • Work at off-site locations as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all policies and standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI), with annual training and adherence to UH policies.
Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Associate's Degree or progress towards degree (Preferred)
  • Medical Terminology knowledge (Preferred)

Work Experience

  • At least 1 year of customer service experience (Required)
  • 2+ years of healthcare customer service (Preferred)
