Patient Access Representative I - Nights

UH Cleveland Medical Center - Emergency Department Registration

Overview

The Patient Access Representative is the first point of contact for patients and their families, supporting interactions with patients, families, and healthcare providers. They ensure the accuracy of demographic, insurance, payment, and other vital information, manage patient inquiries, resolve scheduling concerns, and provide exceptional service. This role supports the medical team by streamlining patient processing, enhancing patient satisfaction, and maintaining appointment schedules. The position impacts both the revenue cycle and patient experience.

Responsibilities

  1. Check patients in and out for medical visits.
  2. Answer phone inquiries and schedule appointments.
  3. Assist patients with enrolling in and using MyChart.
  4. Enter, update, and validate patient demographic, insurance, and financial information.
  5. Communicate important information to the healthcare team.
  6. Contact insurance companies regarding coverage, preapprovals, and billing issues.
  7. Collect and process patient payments, including copays, coinsurance, deductibles, and prior balances.
  8. Assist with completing various paperwork and forms.
  9. Manage EPIC work queues, worklists, and inbasket messages.
  10. Schedule referrals and follow-up visits.
  11. Scan documents into EPIC accurately and promptly.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with team members and providers to improve patient experience and departmental efficiency.
  2. Participate in UH emergency preparedness activities.
  3. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  4. Cross-train to perform other duties as assigned.
  5. May be scheduled to work at off-site locations.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned and adhere to all policies and standards.
  7. Ensure the secure handling of Protected Health Information (PHI) through annual training and compliance with UH policies.
