Description

The Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for all patients and their families. This highly visible role supports and interacts with patients, families, and healthcare providers. They work directly with patients to ensure accuracy of demographic, insurance, payment, and other vital patient information.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Managing patient questions, solving scheduling concerns, and maintaining exceptional patient service.
  2. Supporting the medical care team by streamlining patient processing to improve satisfaction and keep appointments on schedule.
  3. Contributing to the revenue cycle and enhancing the patient experience.
  4. Checking patients in and out for medical visits.
  5. Answering phones to address inquiries and schedule appointments.
  6. Assisting patients with MyChart enrollment and utilization.
  7. Entering, updating, and validating patient demographic, insurance, and financial information for accurate registration.
  8. Communicating important information to the care team.
  9. Contacting insurance companies regarding coverage, pre-approvals, billing, and other issues.
  10. Processing patient payments for copays, coinsurance, deductibles, and prior balances.
  11. Assisting with paperwork and forms completion.
  12. Managing EPIC work queues, worklists, and messages efficiently.
  13. Scheduling referrals and follow-up visits.
  14. Scanning documents into EPIC accurately and timely.
  15. Collaborating with staff and providers to improve patient experience and departmental efficiency.
  16. Participating in emergency preparedness activities.
  17. Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  18. Cross-training for other duties as assigned and working at off-site locations if needed.
  19. Adhering to policies and standards, including PHI confidentiality and security.
  20. Completing annual training and abiding by the UH Code of Conduct and policies.

Position details:

  • Full-time, 40 hours/week
  • Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM (shift may vary)
  • Training duration: 4 weeks
