Role Purpose

The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for patients and must exemplify BJC's standards of customer service, compassion, and professionalism. Responsibilities include facilitating patient entry into BJC facilities, ensuring accurate collection of demographics and insurance information, benefit verification, and point-of-service collection. Attention to detail, emotional intelligence, and knowledge of insurance and regulatory standards are essential.

Responsibilities

1. Utilize critical thinking to anticipate and respond to patient needs, communicate professionally, and ensure a positive patient experience. Accurately select patients from the master person index (MPI) to maintain patient safety and integrity of records.
2. Perform hospital registration and scheduling, verify insurance, scan and retrieve documents, and ensure all information is complete and accurate. Provide patients with procedure preparation instructions, financial education, and collect payments.
3. Understand and enforce hospital compliance with regulations such as Medicare Secondary Payer, HIPAA, Patient Bill of Rights, and others. Ensure HIPAA acknowledgements are completed.
4. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring alertness and safe work practices.
